Internal Bleaching

Internal Tooth Bleaching

A tooth may lose its vitality or coloration for many reasons, such as from injury or root canal treatment. This can result in a darkening or discoloration of the tooth.

Internal bleaching is a procedure to whiten the appearance internally, rather than externally through over-the-counter solutions. Dr. Pla and Dr. Watts drill a hole in the tooth and insert a chemical oxidizing agent into the tooth. The agent remains in the tooth for a couple of weeks and can be replaced with more chemicals until the desired level of whiteness is achieved. Once the treatment is complete, the hole is filled, keeping foreign materials from invading the tooth and causing other problems.

Dr. Pla and Dr. Watts will consult with you as to whether or not you're a candidate for successful internal bleaching.
